Carrier date code: week, then year, in the first four digits
Carrier's 2019 service manual for its residential air conditioners and heat pumps splits the serial number into four parts. Digits 1–2 are the week of manufacture and digits 3–4 the year. A letter for the manufacturing site and a 5-digit serial number follow. Carrier's own example is 01 06 E 00001.
How Carrier lays out the serial
| Part of the serial | Carrier's example | Carrier's label |
|---|---|---|
| Digits 1–2 | 01 | Week of Manufacture |
| Digits 3–4 | 06 | Year of Manufacture |
| Character 5 | E | Manufacturing Site: E = Collierville TN, X = Monterrey Mexico |
| Last 5 digits | 00001 | Serial Number |

Which Carrier units the rule covers
The manual covers Carrier residential air conditioners and heat pumps that use R-22 or Puron refrigerant. In its model numbers, 24 is an air conditioner and 25 is a heat pump. This rule is not confirmed for Carrier furnaces.
Where the serial is
Carrier's manual says: “Model and serial numbers can be found on unit rating plate.” Copy the serial exactly, including the letter.
